Once again I've been very tardy with my blogging, I blame mum for keep taking us on long walks to get her monthly miles done, but FFS don't quote me I'm not complaining! If anyone asks I've forgotten my blogger password.
Let's rewind back to mid April, humans were finally allowed limited freedoms once again, one of them was to travel, although only within in the UK. Mum and dad were well sir crazy by then and couldn't wait to get away somewhere so we went off on a two week road trip to the Lake District and then on to Yorkshire.
Did somebody say 'Road Trip'? - we f**kin' love it! |
Ferrybridge Services I can highly recommend stopping here if you're a dog... |
...there's a field next to the car park so you can stretch your legs and have a poo... |
...and there's plenty of space for an alfresco breakfast |
We left Kesgrave early so we had time to revisit the infamous Barnard Castle on the way. You wouldn't have to have an eye test to see that dad was badly in need of a haircut |
We had a great walk along the River Tees |
And the obligatory swim |
Surveying the scenery above the ruins of Egglestone Abbey |
Back to Barnard Castle |
Caldbeck - home for the week, I think we stayed here before, something smells familiar |
A Sunday funday walk to Hesket Newmarket |
The plan was to stop at The Old Crown for a drink before heading back, either we were early or the pub opened later? Pubs were only now opening up after being closed for weeks, but only for outside service and with reduced hours |
Never mind we got to go swimming |
Blimey there's not much water |
Everyone's a winner the pub was open when we came back |
On Monday we did a circular walk near Keswick |
which included walking up Catbells |
This is one of the most popular walks in the Lake District and apparently it would be heaving with people in non pandemic times, how lucky were we? |
Nearly there
we love the holiday vibes |
The trig point 451 metres above sea level |
Picnic time, cor those rolls look good |
On the way back down to Derwent water, hopefully we'll get a swim |
It's often been said that me an' Luth can be a handful at times - here's the proof |
A treat after a hard days walking (and running) |
Luther diving off the pier lol |
Shall we go again?! |
A perfect end to a perfect day |
On Tuesday we went to Carlisle and were going to do a walk around the castle, when we arrived mum didn't fancy it so we headed to nearby Dalston |
We started off on a walk which was quite uninspiring... |
...then we came across a field full of cows so we abandoned the route and found our way back along the lanes |
Back in Dalston - never miss the opportunity of a swim. By the way when we got back to the centre dad found out that none of the pubs were open on a Tuesday, so not the best day out all round! |
We go again, today we climbed another big hill... |
...through Dodd Wood and up to Dodd Summit 641 metres above sea level |
Great views up here, Bassenthwaite Lake is in the background |
Yay we're swimming in Bassenthwaite Lake, chuck that stick buh |
Dodd Summit is behind us on the right |
Paul & Gail came over to Caldbeck on Wednesday afternoon (Don't worry they didn't stay with us!) On Thursday we all went to Glenridding where dad and Paul climbed Helvellyn and Striding Edge |
Mum, Gail and us boys stayed lower and had a walk along Ullswater |
There's Helvellyn |
Our last day in Caldbeck and another hill to conquer |
You can see Carlisle in the background where the smoke is and beyond that is Scotland |
Picnic time at High Pike 658 metres above sea level |
One last swim |
I had a brilliant time, lot's of swimming and it was so good to get some new smells, eat different shit (did I really say that?) Me an' Luth got loads of treats and to cap it all off the weather was so good as well.
I know that other than taking us boys out and have an occasional afternoon beer when they found a pub open mum and dad couldn't do a lot.
Just think, at one point it was touch and go as to whether that Boris bloke would let us leave Suffolk.
Right let's see what Yorkshire has to offer, I'll tell you about that next time.
Lots of love from
Rudie THE Dog xx
