2024 And All That

Hi everyone
I'm back already with another instalment of my blog.
We drove down to St Ives in Cornwall for the New Years Eve celebrations. I can remember going there for the 2019 ones - just before Covid and Lockdowns became a thing, hopefully history wouldn't repeat itself.

Our new home for the week

The weather wasn't very kind, not that me an' Luth were bothered

We got a nice surprise, Maisy came with her mum & dad, Col & Rosie. Paul & Gail also came to see in the new year with us

Do blondes really have more fun?

Happy New Year's Day!

We still managed to get a New Year's dip - good ol' mum & dad. In fairness we did have to stay indoors last night, while they were out partying

Cor them new towel coats are good

Off on an adventure starting with a train ride from St Ives to Lelant

And then back along the beaches.

Porthkidney Beach we love it here

The team

We had the beach all to ourselves

Don't forget to follow us on Instagram!

A little scramble up the cliff

Looking back towards Hayle

Carbis Bay next

And then a final swim at Porthminster Beach before reaching St Ives

Another day another train adventure, we went on two trains to Penzance and then walked to Mousehole to see the harbour lights

Last day in St Ives and it's another wet 'n

FFS the day that we were due to go home the sun came out

And the forecast was for it to be like that for the next week

So we sacked off going home and found a place to stay 50 miles up the coast in Port Gaverne

Looks like we've got the beach to ourselves

Loving the towel coats

We were staying in 'Doc Martin' country, Port Isaac is just over a mile away, you can see the school in the background

PC Joe Penhale's Police House in Doc Martin AKA Port Gaverne Beach House

We had some good walks around Port Isaac and Port Gaverne

The Golden Lion in Port Isaac AKA The Crab & Lobster in Doc Martin

We had a fun day out at Polzeath Beach

And walked around the coast to Daymer Bay

And then back across country

Another walk around Port Isaac, we're outside Doc Martins house

A day out to Padstow via the Rock Ferry

Only us on the ferry

The Camel Estuary

Not the first time I've dug this beach up

Meanwhile Luth just wants someone to throw the stick

Heading back to Padstow

Low tide

Port Wenn school in Doc Martin AKA The Old School Hotel Port Isaac

The derelict Headlands Hotel above Port Gaverne overlooking the Atlantic Sea

So that was a great start to 2024 and more adventures were just around the corner, or were they?
Dad decided late last year that he was going to give up work in April and convert his Dingtrim van into a campervan. FFS - he's made some random decisions during my lifetime but this one beats them all, just ask mum if you don't believe me!
He couldn't wait so he started stripping it out etc it in late November and when we got back from Cornwall he started the insulation.

FFS

He's lost the plot

New side windows fitted and it's progressing well

A cold but bright walk with Enzo around the marshes in Felixstowe

Enjoying the winter sun at Shingle Street

Ufford

By the way we're loving the log burner

By March he had got the van ready to be fitted out with a kitchen and bed etc, it was going to be done by a company in Bradford and it all coincided with a trip up north to the Lake District and The Ribble Valley in Lancashire.

Me, Luth and mum drove up there separately on the Saturday

Dad drove the van up on Sunday morning. That's another story - Ipswich were doing well in the Championship and chasing promotion to the Premier League, so he stayed behind to go to the game against Sheffield Wednesday. He was glad that he did as they won 6-0

Next time I'll give you an update from our trip up north and a progress report on the van conversion! So until then take care and don't worry, it'll be fine.

Lots of love from

Rudie THE Dog xx
