Hi everyone
I've been on holiday! Not to France as expected (probably wouldn't have got there if we had tried, what with all them Frogs on strike blocking the Channel Tunnel) but to Cornwall. I've got loads of photos to show you, hopefully you won't get too bored with them!
DAY 1
It all started with me getting woken up at 4am and packing the car. I travelled first class with my bed and toys in the back, whilst all of the luggage was put on and behind the backseats |
I didn't have a clue where we were going, I just curled up and went back to sleep, until I was woken at breakfast time |
All I know is we were at a place called Moto and that they must of been expecting somebody famous that day (other than me) as they had a welcome sign up for them, I still don't know who Leigh Delamere is! |
Breakfast time |
So after about eight hours travelling we ended up in in a small village called Port Gaverne in Cornwall |
Once we were checked into our cottage it was time for a swim and to explore the place |
Look at the view |
I think I'm going to like it here |
A quarter of a mile away was Port Isaac, a small fishing village |
Cornish ice cream selfie. Notice old knob head has got it round his chops - honestly! |
Up until now I'd never heard of 'Doc Martin'. It's a tv series about a top London surgeon who moves to Cornwall to become a GP, it's filmed here and stars Martin Clunes. You can buy Doc Martin souvenirs everywhere and even go on Doc Martin walking tours |
All I knew about Martin Clunes is that he was featured in Little Britain, which was well before my time, but I've heard the boys mimicking it |
That's Port Isaac, but I wasn't allowed another swim |
DAY 2
Outside the cottage - which was very interesting as they built it upside down, the kitchen and lounge were upstairs and the bedrooms and bathroom were downstairs, bit confusing for me |
Not a bad location, close to the sea for me and close to the pub for them! |
I'm in heaven here! |
Swim and then a walk to dry off |
Port Gaverne selfie |
After our walk we took a short drive to Trebarwith Strand which was very pretty |
See what I mean? |
Another dog friendly beach, but I haven't got dog friendly parents - they wouldn't let me go in the sea |
Instead I had to go to The Port William Inn |
Day 3
No Monday morning blues for them two this week (I never have them - it's always the weekend in my world!) After breakfast we decided to go for a walk around Port Isaac, on the way there we saw a group of people walking towards us - dad said 'That must be the Doc Martin Walking Tour' but he was wrong. We got closer and there were lots of people milling about and we soon discovered that they were there filming the new series! The group we had seen were all extras.
We stayed an watched them filming for a little while before going to get some lunch |
They're so friendly in Cornwall, us dogs can go in to most places and they even make treats for us |
Time for my first swim at Port Isaac |
Another Rudie postcard picture |
Another holiday selfie - he loves that selfie stick |
This is Doc Martin's house |
And this is Doc Martin about to attend the scene of an accident |
And this is me and the Doc aka Martin Clunes!! |
He walked around the corner in between 'shooting scenes' (I learnt a few 'film terms' darling while I was on the set) and started talking to me, so dad gave him my lead and asked him to pose for a photo. He laughed and called me a tart when I heard the camera's shutter click and moved away - takes one to know one! |
The view from Port Isaac to Port Gaverne |
Our local - The Port Gaverne Hotel |
My home made treat |
DAY 4
We took a drive to Polzeath which was about seven miles from Port Gaverne in the morning. Mum had found a circular walk which started from there. I was well up for it.
It was breakfast time before we could start the walk, dad said that it was the best breakfast he'd ever had - I wouldn't know, he didn't save me anything the greedy b*****d! |
Our walk took us along the coast path towards Trebetherick point and Daymer Bay |
That looks so appealing |
I'm so excited |
Riding the surf |
Beach selfie |
Once we got to Daymer Bay we headed in land to St Enodoc Church - the burial place of Sir John Betjamen, who was the Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom From 1972 until his death. |
There's his grave |
St Enodoc Church |
After we left the church we had to head across fields and a golf course to get back to Polzeath. I stopped off in this puddle to cool down, much to their annoyance. Never fear I found a stream later on to rinse the mud of in. We got lost on the way back which didn't bother me. At one point mum wouldn't cross a field because there were cows in it, the funniest thing though was when dad climbed over a bank and slipped on his arse the other side and into a load of stinging nettles! |
We made it back to the car and made the short journey to Rock, where we got a ferry over to Padstow |
Safely across |
We had a wander around Padstow for an hour or so |
A dog made from wellies |
On the ferry back to Rock |
Time to go home |
A few 'arty' shots |
Let me in |
DAY 5
Mum had to do some work in Bude - poor girl, so me and dad went with her and took ourselves off for a walk
Northcott Beach |
The plan was to walk to Bude along the cliffs and back along the beach |
Once we arrived in Bude I found this! Luckily it was only on the beach in Bude that I wasn't allowed on |
The tide was still too far up to walk back along the beach so we had to go back along the cliffs |
Cliff selfie |
We did however find a path down to the beach not too far along |
So I took advantage |
Back to the cliff top I wasn't allowed near the edge without a lead in case I fell off |
The tide was going out by the time we got back to Northcott Beach |
So I was back in the sea |
How's that for a beach? |
I'm the featured picture for Northcott Beach on TripAdvisor! |
After that we picked mum up and went to Boscastle on the way home |
Back home for drinks on the patio |
And a lay-down before tea |
DAY 6
Mum had to go to Wadebridge, so me and dad had to entertain ourselves, or he had to entertain me!
Nice start to the the day a swim in my bay |
Then we went for a walk to Port Isaac through the fields. Lovely views up here |
See what I mean about my mate Doc Martin and the tours |
That's a tease, I wasn't allowed in |
Overlooking Port Gaverne |
So that's what the tractors for |
Adders my arse! We went to Tintagel when mum got home in the afternoon, it's only eight miles away |
She looks quite happy so far |
Until she saw the steps down to the beach |
The castle where King Arthur was born was shut, not that I was bothered, I only wanted to go in the sea |
That's Merlin the Magician's cave behind me |
Not so happy on the way back up to the top, in need of some magic! |
DAY 7
We all went to Wadebridge in the morning, mum had to be at the Save the Children shop where they were getting a Royal visit.
After dropping her off 'we' went for breakfast, before going to the shop.
That looks good! |
That's Princess Anne under that umbrella, she's the patron of Save the Children |
There's mum meeting her |
We stopped off here for a drink on the way back to Port Gaverne. I hope you do pity me! |
They were filming more Doc Martin when we got back, you can see our cottage in the background, to the right of the pub |
Our last night in Cornwall |
Dad had wanted to put me in that tractor all week |
My last swim |
The long goodbye to the sea |
A meal at the Port Gaverne Hotel on our last night, they shared the Côte de Beouf which smelt really nice! |
DAY 8
It was time to pack up and leave.
We stopped off in Moto again but there was no sign of Leigh Delamere! |
Oh and I got the bone from last nights Côte de Boeuf - better than a stick of rock! |
I loved my holiday, it's just a pity that it was only one week though.
See you soon
Rudie The Dog xx
