Oh Scilly Me

Hi everyone.

Cor I've just been abroad to the Isles Of Scilly, I didn't need any jabs or a passport and I'm so excited to tell you about my latest adventure, so let's get started.

We're all set for our road trip. It always makes me laugh how much stuff mum and dad take on holiday

First stop was an overnighter in Bristol

And a stay at the Temple Meads Ibis

We had a mini heat wave in England at the start of September

Walking along the Harbourside to the pub to meet Sam after work

They love Brunel in Bristol and Vois, the coral coloured e-scooters which are everywhere

Having a doggy beer at The Cottage Inn - it's actually water!

That was a late night/early morning lol

After a groggy start (for the humans) we said goodbye to Sam and continued our trip, heading west for an overnight stay in Camborne. We had a slight diversion along the way though for a swim at Fistral Beach, Newquay. I can't f**kin' wait to get in that sea buh!

It was also mum's birthday - she was very excited to be in Cornwall (as were we!)

Making friends in the surf - it's like Baywatch

We're always happy on the beach

The Tyacks Hotel

Misty morning. We were up early for the short drive to Penzance. We got dropped off with the luggage at the port while dad took the car up to to the park and ride site. Did you know that you're not allowed to take cars over to the Scillies?

Boarding The Scillonian

Settling down for the 2 hours and 45 minute crossing, do you think that I look a little bit apprehensive?

They treated me an Luth very well on board, we got our own boarding passes and a bag of 'Calming' treats lol

Dreaming about our upcoming adventure

Well thankfully that was a smooth crossing. We stayed on St Mary's, the largest of the five inhabited Islands. Our cottage (I've learnt over the years that they love calling houses 'Cottages' when you go on holiday) was about a mile and a half from the port and when we arrived, there was a big parcel each for me and Luthie

Inside the parcels there were beds, bowls, towels, toys, treats and poo bags - Think I'm going to like it here!

Saturday was our first full day in the Scillies and we spent it like we'd spend the rest of the week, walking, swimming and exploring. Honestly it was doggy heaven for us

So when we were in Newquay dad brought a waterproof pouch to put his phone in so that he could take photos in the water

I think that he enjoyed swimming with us, although he took forever to get in the sea - big Jessie lol

Dreaming about the 'Five Walks Around St Mary's'. The circumference of St Mary's is about 10.5 miles and we walked all of it over a few days. There were concerns about Luther's limp and overdoing it, but he just kept going. I'm sure he was faking it for attention, but at the same time I was selfishly worried that it would curtail my adventures!

Cor what a sunset

I don't know if you noticed on some of the other photos today that there was a cruise ship anchored off the coast? It was the Bolette

Sunday morning started off being very misty but it didn't stop us from visiting one of the other islands, Tresco. They have a St Mary's Boatmen's Association who run the various boats across to the other islands as well as other excursions

One things for sure about the Scillies is that you're never far from the sea

Tresco - where every little helps!

Just me and a beach. You just don't see anyone, the population of the Scillys is just over 2,000 people (plus tourists)

The Old Blockhouse - a fort built in the fifteen hundreds to defend the harbour of New Grimsby from the French

'F**K off yeh French bastards' lol

Luth's on guard duty

Time to get the afternoon ferry back to St Mary's after our brief visit which included Sunday lunch at the only pub on Tresco, The New Inn (we got treats and some scraps)

Look, there's the Scillonian, getting ready for the daily return to Penzance

Monday we began our walk around the circumference of St Mary's heading northwards

There's lots of ancient burial chambers around the island

Swimming at Bar Point

No it's not Enzo swimming with us (although I'm sure he'd have loved it) we met another black Lab who wanted to join us

Dad came in too lol

We got round to Pelistry Bay before heading back home inland

This holiday's taking it's toll, I tell ya, most nights we were absolutely f**ked!

On Tuesday we did another part of our St Mary's walk, heading south to the harbour and around the Garrison Walls

Built to defend the island from the Spanish and then the French

Manning the fort, St Agnes is in the background

The Peninnis Head Lighthouse

Just checking the map

We found the grave of Harold Wilson who was Prime Minister of the UK in 1964-70 and 1974-76 in the graveyard at St Mary's church, New Town, he had a holiday home here

Luther's not too pleased about the rules at Old Town Beach - no dogs allowed until September 30th. We headed home from here but not before visiting the Old Town Inn on the way

On Wednesday we went on a boat trip to the Bishop Rock Lighthouse which is six miles west of St Mary's

Not really my cup of tea but it is impressive. It's fully automated now and the only way in is to arrive by helicopter and enter from the top. It's in The Guinness Book Of Records as the worlds smallest Island with a building on it!

After our trip the captain dropped us off on St Agnes where we had a walk before going to the Turks Head

We're laying down in the shade while we wait for the boat back to St Mary's

We didn't manage to get a swim at St Agnes but we had a quick dip on the way home

The final part of our circular walk of St Mary's

Another burial chamber

Luther was limping quite badly, he just doesn't know when to stop, should we have left him there?!!!

Swimming at Porth Hellick Beach

We had to cross the edge of the airport's runway

No perimeter fencing or security guards here

The Atlantic, we went there once or twice!

We had to check out on Friday morning in preparation for our return trip to Penzance

We had such a great time but didn't manage to visit all of the islands

So we definitely need to come back one day. While we were in the Scillies the only transport that we used were boats, mum and dad reckoned that they had walked over 50 miles, I hate to think how many me an' Luth did.

Another pub that we frequented, I say that like I like beer lol

The Scillonian is ready to board and so we had to say goodbye, I'll tell you one thing - there's nothing silly about Scillies!

What's next?

So we got back to Penzance on Friday evening and drove to Porthleven via Sainsbury's. Sam left Bristol after work and drove down to stay with us for the weekend.
He had never been to Lands End before so on Saturday me an' Luth thought it would be good to take him there!

We parked at Sennen Cove and walked along the coastal path

Cornish pasties, yes we got a bit of them. As it turned out we had quite an adventurous day. Firstly a lady from Australia slipped on the cliff side and broke her foot, so the air ambulance and the coastguards had to come to her aid

The First & Last House and the Longships Lighthouse in the background

The weather wasn't as good today

The First & Last House - depending if you're coming or going

Sam's car got a puncture on the way home from Sennen on Saturday and to cut a long story short we had to a get the U4 bus from Penzance to Porthleven. On Sunday morning we got the U4 back, but got off at Marizon and walked the rest of the way there along the beach

Boo, dogs are not allowed on St Michaels Mount anymore - that's not very Cornish of them

Sam went home Monday and we went for a walk to Loe Bar

Aah! We had more visitors on Tuesday, Enzo's Auntie Samatha & Uncle Graeme were staying a few miles from us so they came over for lunch with their new baby daughter Freya. She was only a few weeks old

Wednesday's Walk along the Coast Path from Gunwalloe Beach

Autumn's on the way

Zonked again

We went to see Nadene in Redruth on Thursday and took her to Portreath for lunch

Then we went to Praa Sands on the way home for a swim

Improvising - there's no wood so we used seaweed instead for playing tug of war

I love digging

Another one of those CoastSnap stations

We left Cornwall on Friday for the long drive home, but not before diverting to Bude for one last swim

Not to be outdone!

What a great trip, the weather wasn't quite as good for our week in Cornwall, not that it bothered us boys. For the record dad noticed that Luther's limp got miraculously better just two days before we left Cornwall! Was it that the YuMove Joint Care tablets had finally kicked in? I don't know but I had a limp when we got home and now I'm taking them lol.
I'll catch up with you soon.

Lots of love from
Rudie THE Dog xx
